Purpose of the Catalogue
The SIQEQ Public Domain Literature Library provides curated access to public-domain works in natural history and related fields. The catalogue is designed to help readers discover texts that are historically, scientifically, or literarily significant, with editorial context that aids understanding.
Scope and Selection
The catalogue includes 99 works selected from Project Gutenberg’s collection of public-domain titles. Selection emphasizes works that offer substantial content in natural history, zoology, ornithology, entomology, and exploration. Priority is given to works that are less commonly anthologized but still of interest to contemporary readers.
Source Attribution
All works are sourced from Project Gutenberg, a digital library of public-domain texts. Each record includes the original publisher and, where known, the names of illustrators, editors, and translators. The catalogue does not claim any new copyright over the texts themselves.
Bibliographic Records
Each record contains the title, author(s), publication details, keywords, target reader, and a catalogue note. The catalogue note is written by the the catalogue, and provides context, summary, and guidance. No bibliographic data is fabricated; all information is drawn from the source records.
Category Assignment
Works are grouped into four categories based on broad thematic and subject matter: Animals, Birds, Insects, and Marine Life. These categories are navigational aids and do not represent formal scientific classification. A work may fit multiple categories but is assigned to one for simplicity.
Editorial Reading Context
The catalogue notes are the result of reading excerpts and full texts where available. the catalogue project does not claim to have read every work in its entirety, but each note is based on careful examination of the provided excerpts and catalogue metadata. The notes aim to highlight key themes, structure, and reading approaches.
Edition Facts and Text Measurements
The catalogue records the edition facts as provided by Project Gutenberg, including publication dates, pagination where indicated, and source of illustrations.
